2nd Grade - Miss Kelly Dickinson
Welcome to Room 9!
All About Miss Dickinson:
I am overjoyed to be teaching your students this year. One of my favorite parts about teaching 2nd grade is the children's enthusiasm for learning.
I am a San Mateo native. I attended school at Sunnybrae, Borel, and Aragon High School. I graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal and Civic Studies, a minor in performing arts with an emphasis in dance, a California Teaching Credential, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2013.
This is my fifth year of teaching! I am so lucky to be at Beresford. I love the school community and cannot imagine working anywhere else.
Outside of school, I am either teaching dance classes, taking classes at the gym, or watching soccer games. I love spending time with my family and friends.
Dear Room 9 families,
We had an awesome Literacy Week! Throughout the week, four guest readers came and read books that celebrate diversity. Thank you to Dr. Heather Olsen (Assistant Superintendent), Miss Anne, Theresa Hackett, and Mrs. Dickinson! We also had many parents come in on Wednesday morning with their favorite picture books. They practiced reading strategies with the students and enjoyed decorating book marks. On Thursday, we decorated our classroom door. The inspiration came from the book, All the Way to America, by Dan Yaccarino. The door was looked at by the judges on Friday and Room 9 tied for 1st place!!!
In addition to all this excitement, here is what we are working on in 2nd grade:
Thematic Unit of Study: What Can Different Cultures Teach Us?
Benchmark Advance: Unit 6 - Tales to Live By
Reading: We are reading fables, myths, and tales
Writing: Students are writing small moment personal narratives. We are learning about the entire writing process, from brainstorming to editing and revising.
Envision Math: Topic 11 - Three-Digit Addition and Subtraction
LIFESKILLS of the month are Problem Solving, Initiative, and Common Sense. Please talk with your students about how to live these LIFESKILLS everyday.
The Beresford Blue Fun Run is coming up! Information and pledge sheets were passed out the first week of March. This fundraiser helps the school tremendously with programs like Art, PE, Library, and Field Trip funding. We are looking forward to this fun event and are excited that each student will get to run in a t-shirt provided by the PTA!
Please join us on Friday, March 16th from 10:00-10:30am in Room 9 for our Music for Minors Family Sharing Event! Come watch our music class with Mr. Justin!
