2nd Grade - Miss Kelly Dickinson
Welcome to Room 9!
All About Miss Dickinson:
I am overjoyed to be teaching your students this year. One of my favorite parts about teaching 2nd grade is the children's enthusiasm for learning.
I am a San Mateo native. I attended school at Sunnybrae, Borel, and Aragon High School. I graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal and Civic Studies, a minor in performing arts with an emphasis in dance, a California Teaching Credential, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2013.
This is my fifth year of teaching! I am so lucky to be at Beresford. I love the school community and cannot imagine working anywhere else.
Outside of school, I am either teaching dance classes, taking classes at the gym, or watching soccer games. I love spending time with my family and friends.
Dear Room 9 families,
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and this year we are excited to announce that the theme of the day is “I <3 Reading!” The day will be spent celebrating our love for reading. I am hoping all parents can join us on Wednesday, February 14th from 8:30-9:30am as we participate in reading activities! If your child would like to bring in Valentine cards, I sent home a list of student names on February 5th. If you need a new list, please let me know. If they are bringing in cards, please make sure that they have enough for the entire class.
Also coming up is Literacy Week! From February 26th through March 2nd our school will be celebrating literacy with a variety of activities. Some activities include guest readers, door decorating, and pajama day! Please look for more information in the Thursday packets and room parent emails.
In addition to all this excitement, here is what we are working on in 2nd grade:
Thematic Unit of Study: Important People
Benchmark Advance: Unit 5 - Solving Problems Through Technology
Reading: We are working on identifying key details to state the main idea of a text. We are also looking at nonfiction text features to understand how they help give us more information about a text.
Writing: Students will write a nonfiction book on a topic that they are an expert about. They will also complete a Biography project about an important person of their choosing. Students will be using two sources to research information about their important person.
Envision Math: Topic 10 - Place Value to 1,000
LIFESKILLS of the month are Courage, Integrity, and Pride. Please talk with your students about how to live these LIFESKILLS everyday.
Last but not least, our field trip to the Walt Disney Family Museum is Thursday, February 15th. Please make sure you pack your student a lunch in a disposable bag and have them wear their Beresford Blue t-shirt/sweatshirt. Any blue shirt/jacket will work. Thank you!
