Hello everyone and welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I'm so excited to be teaching 2nd grade again this year. This is my 6th year teaching at Beresford, and 7th year teaching overall. I've taught first grade, a first/second grade combination class, and now I am loving second grade. I earned my Bachelors degree from UCLA in English, and completed my teaching credential at San Jose State University. I am currently earning a Masters Degree in Educational Administration - I'll be done June 2018!
At Beresford, I've truly found a home and community. I stay busy by fulfilling many different roles at school. I love using my Growth Mindset to challenge myself to try new things.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my wonderful niece. I also like to travel and participate actively in my church community. Otherwise, I love to read, bake and cook, do crafts, and spend time outside. My challenge for myself this year is to go someplace new each month and take Zumba classes once a week because I love to dance!
It has been a great first few weeks at school. I am enjoying getting to know your students.
Here is what we are currently working on:
Thematic Unit of Study: GOVERNMENT
Benchmark Advance: Unit 1-Government at work
Reading: We are working on identifying the main idea and key details of a text. We are also learning to annotate the text using pencils and highlighters.
Writing: In this unit, we are working on a narrative, informational, and opinion piece of writing. Students will use facts and details from the text, as well as their own ideas, to compose their pieces of writing.
Envision Math: Topic 3-Subtraction Strategies
LIFESKILLS of the month are Perseverance, Effort, and Personal Best. Please talk with your students about how to live these LIFESKILLS everyday.
I will be sending out parent-teacher conference confirmations in the next few weeks. Please confirm a conference time with me before October break. Conferences are scheduled for the first week of November.
I am looking forward to a great year! Please contact me anytime via email, phone, or in person to chat.
Thank you so much for bringing in school supplies at the beginning of the year!

Homework is assigned daily. Homework consists of 20 minutes of reading, a reading log question, and a double-sided math practice worksheet. Students take home their book bag each day and bring it back to school each morning. It is extremely important that the book bag comes back to school each day.
